Dynamic Duo is an adventure for intergenerational pairs. In this 5-day program, a middle school girl is joined by an adult- a big “sister,” aunt, mother, grandmother, or mentor. Together, and in the company of other pairs, these duos will explore both the beauty of the Maine coast and the power of intergenerational connections.
On Thursday, all of our duos will meet together at CSG’s coastal campus, an 1840’s era farmhouse located in Freeport, Maine. Here we will get to know each other and prepare for our 3-day sea-kayaking trip. While on campus, we will enjoy a warm homemade meal and settle into the bunkrooms of the top floor of the farmhouse.
On Friday morning, our pairs will team up in tandem kayaks to begin our coastal trip. We will learn basic paddling skills in the morning, stop for a picnic lunch, and paddle on to our coastal campsite. Once we have unloaded our boats, we will set up our base camp and learn how to assemble tents, cook with camp stoves, and spend time together in the wilderness.
On Saturday, we will wake, make breakfast, and prepare for another day of exploring the coastline. Throughout the trip, our leaders will facilitate several workshops designed to deepen the connection between duos as well as engage in the value of wisdom embedded in different stages of our lives. We will return to base camp in the late afternoon, in time to prepare a delicious outdoor dinner and our last evening on the water.
Sunday will find us packing up and paddling back to our take out. In the afternoon, we will clean up and enjoy a warm shower and another homemade meal before our celebration in our final evening together.
On Monday morning, we will have a homemade breakfast and engage in a closing activity before our Duos depart, concluding our 5-day journey together!
